if that's the case, I think my thoughts are

The US is much more developed but only slightly more just or fair than China, but its financial system is corrupted and is ripping off the whol world with its super power status. Therefore, the corruption in the US is worse than that in China.

As for I believe -> I believed:

I still think for individuals, those belifs still holds true for me. That's why I preferred to keep it in present tense when I wrote~~
