It's been a puzzle for me too. Like "radio" in some parts of the original reading, the I and O are not that long, esp. when the word is not at a very prominent position.But it wouldn't cause confusion because there is no word in English that differs from "radio" only by the length of I.it sounds actually less natural if we pronounce it fully.
I think the standards here are kind of strict as we are trying to correct our pronunciation. We might be overdoing it a little bit.
