stable coronary artery disease, no angina, clinical trial showed medical treatment is as good as interventional angioplasty and is well accepted by cardiologist in States. Has your father had stress test yet? Does he has any symtoms? Drug-eluted stents are more popular in States, you need to take plavix for minimum 12 months to avoid the risk of reocculusion which is highest at 3-6months post stents placement. I am not sure of your father's situation, depends on his age, general performance status, prognosis, et al. The procedure itself takes 30 mintues or so and is very tolerable. The only concern is that your father should be well hydrated as the contrast dye can cause acute kidney problems especially he just had angiogram.
