觉得有贬义的， 这词是转指穷苦农民， 和美国人常说的farmer 不同，

他的意思就是中国产品是中国的穷苦农民生产的， 就是中国的工人还是很穷， 未必是指整个中国都很穷.

peasants -- a poor farmer of low social status who owns or rents a small piece of land for cultivation (chiefly in historical use or with reference to subsistence farming in poorer countries).
