That native speaker agrees with me on this issue completely and I think I have made all my points. To me, grammar is still the most important thing in writing as long as English is not our first language, of course, unless the writer/narrator wants to sound accented and be recognized as a Chinese writer/narrator by his reader upon reading of the first couple of paragraphs. What's the significance? I know the importance of a storyline and logic, and all the good stuff. Ask any writer or reader, he/she will agree. But as I said before, just like our accent reduction efforts in pronunication, this is "accent" in writing for me. I know now we don't and can't agree on this.
chat/argue later. :)
