Learning English is about learning the culture.
If you focus, which you must, you will not only learn the language, but also about the thinkings behind those articles and be influenced though osmosis. That's the _real_ thing.

As an alternative, you may try the Bible. Again, you need to focus. Its language is beautiful in the eyes of the Westerners. Besides, knowing the Bible is worth more than a college education, as one US president put it.
