很高兴看到大家早都掌握了这个句型。记得过去这个句型对国人挺有难度，会有不少人把 “cannot be overestimated" 翻成 ”一定不能过高估计“，和英文的原意”再高的估计都不过分“正相反了。 

 

3. 是金子不一定都发光。

All that is gold does not glitter.

注：这个句子出自《指环王》，是从莎士比亚的《威尼斯商人》里的名句变来的。莎翁原句是，“All that glitters is not gold"，按莎翁原意，标准的翻译是 （1）"并非所有的金子都发光"。 但其实这个英语句子是多义的，其第二个意思是（2）“所有的金子都不发光”。这里最有意思的是，国人看到莎翁的句子一般只会想到（2），但母语为英语的人，譬如莎翁，却首先会想到是（1）。 这个和中文与英文的否定词有关，中文中的否定词在任何层面都不能移动，所以它所修饰的东西不变。而英文的否定词在理解层面却是能移动的，“not" 如果原地不动，就是（2），如果在理解层面移到最前面，就是（1）。 而母语为英语的人更习惯（1），因为英语这种深层浅层的移动很普遍，譬如疑问词和代词 （What did you do ___ ?   I borrowed the book that you were reading ___ yesterday.  I wonder where they are going ___ .)
