1. the man knows to spend appropriately->knows how to ...? or is known to ...
It is okay to say "know to do something". Here is an example from Oxford: Does he know to come here (that he should come here) first?
2. dispise->despised
Good catch! "Dispise" is the obsolete spelling of "despise".
3. Afterwards, the pressure from mortgage, college tuition, etc, gradually changes the spending habits.觉得有点歧义,the spending habits是不是换成his spending habits更清楚些.
Quite often, the man and woman need to discuss and agree on big ticket items. That's why I prefer to say "the spending habits" instead of "his spending habits."
4. advancing better->advancing faster, or climbing the corporate ladder faster
I'm not very sure here. By "better" I wanted to include a number of metrics, including faster. Maybe you are right, but I am not totally sure.
5. get things done well带着well觉得怪
This word "well" is in parallel with "within budget" and "on schedule", stressing the quality of the work. What would be a better way to say this?
6. Nice is an extra but not essential;-->"Being nice" is something extra, maybe?
You are right. I will change it to "Being nice is an added bonus but not essential;"
Thanks again! It realy helps.
