Among the four gorgeous women in Sex and the City: Carrie, Samantha, Miranda, and Charlotte, the one I can relate to (共鸣) most is Miranda. She is witty, sharp, perceptive and funny in a sarcastic way.
But the one I like to watch most is Samantha. She is a firecracker, a pistol, and a ghost pepper – the hottest pepper in the world to make your tears rush down the face like a waterfall and then crawl back to cry for more. There are no people she doesn’t dare to date, young, old, man, woman, gay or straight. There are no kinks (性怪僻) she doesn’t dare to indulge. She is audacious and slutty on the one hand, while, on the other hand, she’s a woman with balls, always standing up for herself, self-sufficient, self-protective, adventurous and gutsy (勇猛坚定) that I admire a lot. Wherever she goes, she catches the most eyeballs. Whatever she does, she is guaranteed to make your jaw drops.
While if Samantha is a wild fire rose, Charlotte is a snow-white lily, the complete opposite. Charlotte is a typical American sweet heart, well educated, classy, tasty, rich and a little spoiled. She embraces all those cliché traditional views when it comes to relationship and marriage. She’s always seeing things with rosy glasses and trying hard to live up to her fantasy.
Whenever one of her friends has a nice date, she would comment something like you guys are so marrying or I can totally see you guys together. She even believes that a one-night-stand can lead to a great relationship like what happens in those crap loaded romantic novels. It is nothing wrong to be optimistic, to be frank. But being too optimistic or idealistic is like living in an unrealistic world, which is doomed to burst like a shining bubble.
Charlotte’s also an authentic cheerleader of the Princess Beautiful and Prince Charming style type of the love. It is cute for a 7-years-old to think this way, naive but still bearable for a 20-years-old, but total bullshit for a 30 something cougar (熟女). Sometimes you just have the urge to shake her by the shoulders and yelled into her face. “Come on, wake up, silly girl!”
Although she is gullible (易受骗的) and naïve, not my cup of tea at all, I find she grows up most among the four women. She grows up in her quest to find true love. She first married a handsome doctor, her dreamy Prince Charming. It didn’t work out. They broke up after a year. Later she met Harry, an uncharming Mr. Baldy, who was nothing she grew up looking for, but everything she needed. He brought her the best sex of her life and eventually a happy marriage in a totally unexpectant way.
She also grows up from her quest (探求, 寻找) to have a baby. She has been through countless struggles with the fertility challenges. She has been through pregnancy ecstasy (狂喜) and the miscarriage devastation. In the end, she miraculously grows from a delicate flower to an elastic rubber band, which touches my heart deeply as a woman and as a mom. I can’t help cheering up for her, for her optimism and resilience. She begins as my least favorite lady in this show to win me over at the end of it.
Usually I don’t like writing tragic stories. I like cracking jokes, making fun of others and most of time myself. Life is already too serious and too boring, why saddens it more. But I have to admit tragedy carries the power. Tragedy gives you the strength. Tragedy touches the sore spot that is hidden so deeply in your heart that you are always trying to avoid. Tragedy forces you to face the real bloody life.

Below is the story about Charlotte who got pregnant, lost it, and moved on, which is one of tearjerker (催泪) moments for me in the whole series.
Act One: She was pregnant.
After all those hormone shots, acupuncture therapies, Chinese herbal tea, finally Charlotte found out that she was pregnant, like a miracle, although it was only at the very early stage. She couldn’t believe how lucky she was. Finally she had Harry, a loving and caring hu*****and. Now she conceived (孕育) their very own baby. She just couldn’t stop beaming. She just couldn’t keep the secret, although usually it would be wise to wait until the end of the risky first trimester to spill the beans
She shared the great news anyway with the other 3 gals, her best friends when they were dining out together one day. Everyone gave her the warm-hearted blessing. She was on the top of the world for sure.
Act Two: She lost it.
A week later, the baby went away. Charlotte dropped from the seventh heaven. The word "sad" may not even begin to describe the feelings for an expecting mom like Charlotte to lose her baby. "Devastated" is likely a little closer to the truth, and “the feeling like the heart has been ripped out (撕扯出), run over by a steam roller (蒸气压路车) and put through a paper shredder” may be even closer, although it may still not come close to doing verbal justice to the experience (语言是无力描述这种体验的). Charlotte collapsed mentally and physically. She couldn’t muster up any courage to attend the Birthday party for Brandy – Miranda’s first year old son. Neither could Carrie’s visit cheer her up a bit.
Charlotte holed up in her Park Avenue apartment like a zombie (僵尸). It was already the seventh day. Things weren’t doing any better. She slumped (沉重的躺在) on the sofa with tissues around. Her sweaty pants were days old; Her uncombed long hair was tangled; Her hollowed eyes were blank; Her pale face was haggard She was clicking the TV remote control, searching programs aimlessly when suddenly a documentary (纪录片) about her idol Elizabeth Taylor caught her attention. Elizabeth, the world famous silver screen star, had once endured a very difficult tracheotomy (气管切开) operation. She hovered near death for over 3 days and she survived. She’s a talented and courageous actress and above all, a survivor, the most important thing. “It’s time for guts and guile.” Elizabeth said, as to Charlotte. There is time for sadness and grieving and there’s also time for guts and guile. Charlotte turned off the TV and stood up. Act Three: She got out of the building.
Charlotte
