刚说到吐司的时候，我实际上在想：假如一个英国人把一根法棍切成片来烤，会不会称之为toast?

在我的直观感觉里，好像只有那些缓慢加热制作的皮薄心软的面包被切成片后烤，才叫toast。而并非所有类型的面包切成片烤都叫toast。

但是我也明白你的意思。方面包未切未烤就叫吐司，是源自英美还是中国创新？我觉得可能是港译。

美国人怎么称呼没有切开也没有再次烤的方面包？也叫toast吗？英国同学也请讨论一下。
