我自认为我的生活方式是属于很保守的。其实如果有计划，量力而行，就不必提心吊胆地生活。
我来美国后只买过两栋房子，都是买地，然后新建房子。93年买第一栋房子约
2，500sq ft，才十七万。05年卖掉，三十四万。我们这个社区曾被评为全美“模范社区”，但它的第一任发展商破产了。我很喜欢这个社区，第二栋房子也买在同一社区，不同的小区。03年买地签合同，是在房地产起泡之前。05年竣工迁入，入住后就将贷款全部付清了。现在看来，付掉房贷是个明智的选择。不信你们看看05年投进股票市场的钱现在都跌成什么样了吧！
我家老哈（hu*****and）对投资房地产一向不是很热衷。佛州经济靠的是旅游业，整体收入水平低，除了外地投机者或大富豪，本地居民没有很高的购房能力。另外，佛州的地产税2.5%左右，地税加上保险和机会成本，如果房价一年不涨10%，是不赚的。所以，我们买房子就是为了自己住的高兴，赚不赚不重要。
我家的日常生活也是很简单的。我不买首饰，不买名牌包，不买很贵的衣服。我甚至很少去逛商店。食品，家用也是保持low inventory，不存一大堆用不着的东西。
我喜欢旅游，也喜欢去饭馆吃饭。这大概是唯一的“奢侈”了吧？
现在我家是既无外债，又无内债，既无车贷，也无房贷。一个人的收入足以支付日常开销。以我们现有的生活方式，两人都失业也能活下去。唯一问题是，不工作就没有医疗保险，自己花钱买会猴儿贵。
其实我很有些后悔当初没有痛快地多花些钱好好享受，反正也是丢股票里没影儿了，好几年白干了。但真要问我有什么想买又没舍得买的？除了一架带火箭的航天飞机，好像又说不出别的什么。
