I suggest him not to go back. The startup environment is much worse than silicon valley. People there work 14 hrs a day in startups. I had a friend who raised US1M two years ago and invited me to join him as an executive. I declined. He said he worked 9am to 12am seven days a week for two years and guess what? Ran out of money and that's it. My friend offered me a similar deal as your hubby.
Unless your hubby is getting the same deal as my sister, I suggest you do not go. My sister just got transfered to the corporate venture group, in charge of scouting out new technologies in Asia with extensive travelling in China, Japan, Korea and Taiwan. She managed to get a fair raise and based in US. Although she is expected to spend 80% of her time in Asia, the company classify her stay as business trip so 100% of her expenses are paid. If she choose to move her family there, the company pays the tuition of her two kids in American International School in Shanghai and all housing and transportation expenses.
Do not except ...
