买房新人请教如何开暖气

上次6月才在这里请教了如何关壁炉，现在又来请教如何开暖气，不要笑我，我是四川人，原来在国内从没有暖气，只知道空调的暖气开法。
我家的房子是air condition的通道，楼下有个盒子honeywell engry的控制温度的东西，是gas暖气，地下室还有aprilaire automatic humidifier，请问我是直接将honeywell这个系统的开关打开就可以了吗？然后再在这个盒子显示上调温度？地下室还要开什么开关？aprilaire automatic humidifier要不要打开？还有听说要换filter，什么情况下换呢？我家楼上我没有发现有什么开关可以控制楼上的暖气，只是在楼上的主卧closet里发现个开关，开开关关都没有灯相应，closet外面有个开关是控制closet的灯，不知道这个不知名的开关是否是楼上的暖气开关，没有就要花钱了。我家水也是烧gas的。
问题多，请原谅我这个美国新家的小白。谢谢。
