I did that myself before, but regret it after I finished.

Painting is not a complicated job, however, if you want to do a nice job, it is better to hire a local contractor.(a good one) the cost is really minimum compared with what you have to learn to pick the right paint, buy all those tools, plus those painful work process.
if it is a small space, you can try to do it yourself and have some fun with it, otherwise, more likely you will regret it like i did.

Note: I am not a handy man, therefore, what i said here just represents my opinion only.
