我说的是一次去 ER， 后来住院手术的情况。

就说说医院的 charge 吧， 来了 bill 以后我给医院打电话。

首先我说我是那个医疗中心的住院医师， 我们的医疗保险在 network 医院是 cover 80% 的， 你这个医院不在 network 里面， 所以只 cover 60%。
但是我说去 ER 的时候我给你们看了我的医疗保险的 ID card，还专门问给你们这个 coverage 的问题， 因为旁边 5 分钟车程过去就是我们的 medical center 的医院， 我的情况也不是连这  5 分钟车程都不能耽误的。 但是你们没有说什么， 就让我在你们医院的 ER 等了。

还有我说我是这里医学院的住院医师，让他们考虑一下 professional courtesy （ 你看看这个解析， 知道一下什么是professional courtesy ：

Professional courtesy was the tradition among physicians not to charge for treatment of each other's family.[1] The purpose was to discourage physicians from having members of their own family as patients, as well as to foster bonds among physicians; the custom dates back to Hippocrates.[2] The phrase may also be applied in a literal form, such as required ethical behavior of lawyers towards each other.[3]）

 我本来还想是不是需要写一个正式的 letter 的， 但是还没有写， 结果出乎我的意料。 医院就直接让我才付 1/6 的 charge。
