More than 1,000 companies have filed lawsuits against the Trump administration (as of early 2026) seeking refunds for billions of dollars in import tariffs, following a U.S. Supreme Court ruling that deemed these duties, imposed under the International Emergency Economic Powers Act (IEEPA), to be illegal.
Major Companies Involved: High-profile corporations involved in the legal action include FedEx, Costco, Toyota, Alcoa, Revlon, GoPro, Barnes & Noble, J.Crew, and BYD
Why They Are Suing: Importers paid these tariffs, which they argue were unlawful and severely impacted their costs. The lawsuits seek to recover these payments before they are officially "liquidated" (finalized) by U.S. Customs, making them harder to recover.
