请教各学霸，为啥陪同加拿大前总督伍冰枝的作协诗人老毕要用beautiful 形容周总理，而不是handsome?

4人帮倒台后，伍冰之去中国寻根，作协诗人老毕（曾为周总理秘书）陪同，伍说他"spoke wonderfully civilized English."，但是，他在向他们展示他纪念周总理的诗中，用beautiful 而不是handsome 形容周，即使伍和老公对此稍微挑了挑眉，但他还是坚定地用beautiful, 大家说为啥？是毕的英文不够好？还是另有原因？
