To be admitted to the New York bar, applicants must meet the following requirements: 
 
 
  • NYLE: Pass the New York Law Exam (NYLE) 
     
     
  • Skills form affidavit: Submit proof of meeting the Skills Competency and Professional Values requirement 
  • Law school: Complete at least one year of law school 
     
     
  • Law office: Complete at least three years of study in a New York law office 
     
     
  • Moral character: Provide certification of good moral character 
     
     
  • Application: Apply for eligibility to take the bar exam 
     
     
  • MPRE: Pass the Multistate Professional Responsibility Examination (MPRE) 
     
     
  • NYLC: Complete the New York Law Course (NYLC) 
     
     
    Applicants should expect up to six months for confirmation of eligibility. The Board of Law Examiners (BOLE) is the final authority on eligibility
