Way too often this happens - police as well as firefighters standing around waiting instead of immediately taking action. Most often outside the US, you will see immediate action, even bystanders jumping in to immediately address the situation. Not here in the US. Police need to have apolicy to go in - yes, its dangerous, but that is your job, that is what you signed up for. Not to wait till an army shows up. And firefighters the same, get in there and save the building and/or pople.
From that footage, it appears heavily armed officers ARE standing around policing families rather than addressing the situation. Surely they could have all stormed the building as a collective - from different angles? 90 minutes is a horrifically long time to allow that to continue. Those poor, poor children. The parents could hold on to a shred of comfort if it all happened so quickly, the kids barely registered what was happening, but 90 minutes of terror - is torture. Those poor families and the survivors will be recovering from this for the rest of their lives. I am sure the officers involved are traumatised and did their best, but looking at this video, maybe we need to reevaluate what 'best' looks like?
