You should listen to the inspector's recommendation. Termite’s nests are usually located under ground outside of house or under the concrete slab below the basement. The most effective treatment is spraying pesticide around house foundation and below the basement concrete through holes. After the application of pesticide, all the newly drilled holes (in concrete slab) need to be sealed. Because this is a local application of the pesticide, there should be no health concerns.
Not sure what the tent treatment means. If it is fumigation treatment, you need to be careful, especially if you have small children. Fumigation treatment will leave residual on all surface area such as walls, floor, furniture, etc. Some pesticides used for termite could have neurotoxicity, and they might have potential effect in development of the central nervous system.
