刚从CNN报道最高法又拒了德州翻案的上诉案的新闻里学了个新俚语词句，“the fat lady has sung”

CNN报道里由这么一句话：

"From a legal perspective, the fat lady has sung," said Steve Vladeck, a CNN Supreme Court analyst and University of Texas Law professor.

一查原来这词来自这个民间俗语 “when the fat lady sings”

when the fat lady sings
When a given situation, event, effort, etc., is completely finished or concluded. It is often used in reference to organized competitions, such as sporting events, political elections, etc.
A: "We're down by six points with only two minutes remaining. There's no way we can win now!" B: "Hey, we'll call it quits when the fat lady sings!"
