请教：入住加州的酒店，但酒店把替我签收的贵重物品丢失

我在5月份入住加州的一家酒店，在入住前委托酒店前台替我签收两件网购的私人用品。
价值1000美金左右。

我查询购物网站已将货物发出，usps显示在5月28日上午由前台的ZZ签收，第二单货物也在28
日下午由前台AA签收。因私人原因，5月底不能如期入住这家酒店，就委托在美国的亲属联系酒店，
希望酒店将货物转送到亲属的家里。但联系了几次，酒店的负责人都推脱说货物不知去向。

我不知道这种情况该如何处理，如何跟酒店交涉。我是不是可以提出让酒店赔偿？
