Nathaniel Rowland, 25, was found guilty of murdering 21-year-old University of South Carolina student Samantha Josephson on Thursday
Josephson was out with her friends in Columbia on March 29, 2019, when she mistook Rowland's car for an Uber
Rowland trapped Josephson in his car before stabbing her 120 times and dumping her body in the woods
A jury deliberated for less than two hours before handing down the guilty verdict
Josephson's mother, Marci, addressed the court before sentencing and called Rowland 'evil', 'pathetic' and 'a monster'
'Her dreams were my dreams, and her death was my death. I close my eyes, and I feel what she endured at his hands,' Marci said
Rowland told the judge: 'I know I'm innocent, but I guess what I know and what I think really doesn't matter'
He was given the maximum sentence of life in prison
