I would say postdoc is a career.

Tenure professor is like managing director in the finance industry. Probably one out of ten Wall Street analysts may be promoted to managing director after 15-20 years of 14 hours every day. The majority of the analysts are burned out and quit. Please do not complain about unpredictable flows of grants and funding. Who can predict deal flows? Managing directors are worried about flows they can bring in. Without flows, they have to quit too. 

There is absolutely no free lunch in this world. Actually no one is necessarily luckier than you are. As human being, we all have to handle uncertainty and downturns. 

Postdocs were top students. They started complaining when they think they shall be treated better. I have to say, it is life.
