RE: How come the light fixture does not work?

I have under-cabinets lighting above the kitchen sink.  The lighting fixture uses two 8w 12 inch light bulbs (the bulbs are very slender).  I know for sure the light bulbs are good. 

For some time, the light would not go on for some time after I turned on the switch.  Sometimes the light would be very dim, and then it would brighten up.  This went on for months, now the light is totally dead.

Could you share with me what part of the light fixture went down?  If you could write the English for the word as well, that would be helpful.  I would try to get the part in a hardware store or online.
