Totally agree, it is insulting

I have standards even for birthday cards (disclaimer: I am NOT the tiger mother). I totally reject the idea of picking up the first card you see at Hallmark whatever it is. I take pride in my gift picking -- I pick everything, even cards, with lots of thoughts. They may not be expensive (often times they are not), but they are tokens of my love and care.

And whenever i gave out expensive gifts, it means i don't care about that person, eg., a relative who works in the government.
