At 8 pm on the evening of 1 May ［1945］, Goebbels ［48岁白人博士］arranged for an SS dentist, Helmut Kunz, to kill his six children by injecting them with morphine and then, when they were unconscious, crushing an ampule of cyanide in each of their mouths.^[95] According to Kunz's testimony, he gave the children morphine injections but it was Magda Goebbels ［妻子］and Stumpfegger, Hitler's personal doctor, who then administered the cyanide.^[96]  According to another account, Goebbels shot his wife and then himself. This version is portrayed in the movie Downfall.

［妻子］Magda appears to have contemplated and talked about killing her children at least a month in advance.^[32] She refused several offers from others, such as Albert Speer, to have the children smuggled out of Berlin. The children's bodies were later discovered by the Soviet troops who stormed the bunker. They were dressed in their nightclothes, with ribbons tied in the girls' hair. There was evidence in the form of bruises that the eldest child, 12-year-old Helga, had awakened and struggled before she was killed.
