Why do you want to use oil-based paint?

Yes, oil-based paint lasts longer and protects better.  But it's not environmentally friendly.  Just used water-based latex paint.  The reason old water-based paint peels is because it was not preped well.  You need to prime well and paint at least twice.  Make sure to paint as thin as possible.  It you really into oil-based paint, use a oil-based primer first.  Prime is the most important thing for painting.
