Depending on the size and brand of the door. Steel doors are the most popular and best value so far. If you need better insulation then go with double steel one (R-value). Costco and Lowes use Amarr doors and Home Depot uses Clopay ones. They are pretty much equal. But Costco contractor may have Wayne Dalton. Wayne Dalton doors use different backing rather than vinyl and have better insulation. Wayne Dalton single steel doors have about the same insulation as double steel doors made by Amarr or Clopay. When evaluate the door price consider the following:
1. Thickness of the steel (gauge number);
2. Size. Most residential doors are about 7 by 9 foot;
3. Single or double steel;
4. Glass window or not;
5. Coil spings or torsion springs. Torsion springs are better looking, last longer and are about $60 more per door.
