Based on what you said, your weather is similar to zone 7. 栀子花 has multiple species. Most of gardenia is a zone 8 plant. However, in recent years several hardy gardenia emerged, that grows fine in zone 7. If you want to try, I highly recommend Chuck Hayes hardy gardenia that has large beautiful flowers and Kleim's Hardy Gardenia that has small leaves. Good luck!
