1) please don't call it opera. It is just a Broadway musical. It is an insult to call Broadway musical as opera. They are on different levels.

2) The dress is probably for Hollywood red carpet show, or special openning night (the type that go by invitation only), but not for high level culture activities. If you go to the Met, you will realize that it is a virtue to dress in an understated manner in sophisticated culture activities.
