Changes made in the third modification:
I removed 彩云片片, 迷雾团团 etc. to make the translation stick to the original meaning and to be concise. Similar change was made to '熟栗坠地如火跃, 红雀鼓翅漫天旋;'. The new line is '坠地熟栗似火,漫天雀翅纷杂;'
“Whatever is fickle, freckled” was translated to "或摇摆多变,或布满色斑". Word 'freckle" has very specific meaning that are the colorization of small spots on skin or surface. Word 'fickle' is used to 形容人摇摆不定, 在感情上, 主意上易变。 多少有点负面。 我在翻译时保留了这种解释。 人讲“存在即合理”, 诗中实际上隐含“存在即美丽”的哲学。
I have a new understanding of the structure of the poem. I realized that the whole poem only uses one complete sentence, which is the last line "He fathers-forth whose beauty is past change". Grammatically 'Whatever is fickle,freckled ' is a complete sentence, adjectives “fickle, freckled” 为表语。 But the whole sentence serves a role of a noun phrase in the poem.
Structure analysis:
Glory be to God for dappled things
List things by their names:
--skies(nature)
--trou(nature)
--chestnut-falls; finches’ wings(nature)
--Landscape(human activity)
--áll trádes(human activity)
List things by characteristics:
--Something that is counter, original, spare, strange;(unique quality, by category)
--Something that is fickle, freckled(not that perfect)
Further diversifying the thing in above list by the secondary qualities
--With swift, slow; sweet, sour; adazzle, dim;
He fathers-forth whose beauty is past change:(the only complete sentence in the poem)
Praise him
