by Jiang Yan of South Dynasties

Let me watch the battlefield plain: wild weeds entwining bones and trees before tombs gathering ghosts. At this stage of life, is it imperative to talk of Providence? I am thus a born regretter, being stunned to no end. I think of the ancients regretting of such death.

点评：

1. Regretting：措辞不妥。Regret是“后悔”或者“惋惜”的意思，而本文所说的“恨”并不是“后悔”或者“惋惜”，而是“抱恨”的意思，这可以从原文中所举的大量例子看出。

2. Let me watch：用得目明其妙。用let me do something，得有需要let me的原因，比如，你在看某东西，我要你让我看，我可以说let me see it。你不听劝，我要警告你，我会说let me tell you. 原文里说到的plain就在那里，不用let me就能 watch. 如果你要看，just go ahead and watch it. 所以，这里let me watch三个字都是空字，毫无意义，而且没有原因。

4. Wild weeds： Redundant. Weeds 就足够了。

5. Trees before tombs （gathering ghosts）：虽然“拱木（敛魂）”出自《左传》，指坟前大树，但本文里拱木并非仅指坟地前的树木，既然这里曾经是battlefields，那就不仅指坟前的大树木，而是泛指所有大树，所以trees一词就足够了。

6. Trees before tombs gathering ghosts: 有点目明其妙！什么叫trees before tombs gathering ghosts，树木能够gather ghosts吗？你以为江淹在这里写神话小说呢！这一句与上一句相对，上一句说骨头看上去怎样，本句说树看上去怎样。是指树木看上去象鬼魂似的，而不是说“树在聚集鬼魂”。

7. At this stage of life: 用得目明其妙，怎么会没有前后文突然出现一个at this stage of life？谁的life？江淹的life还是鬼魂的life？既然没指名，根据语法，当然是指紧靠前面的“鬼魂”的life咯，这当然是错的。

8. is it imperative to talk of Providence：错译。原句不是“谈论‘天命’是必须的吗”这个意思。原句的意思是：到了这个时候（人死了），“天命”已经没有意义了。

9. thus：错用transitional word。Thus是“这样”的意思。请问，前文里什么东西使你“这样”（thus）成为a born regretter呢？你成为regretter不是前文里的东西造成的，是天生的。

10. regretter: 自造词。学好写作的人都知道一般情况下不应自造新词，除非有充分的理由。

11. I am thus a born regretter, being stunned to no end：没有分清主次。这个句子后半部分比前半部分重要，所以要subordinate前半部分，而不是分词化后半部分。

12. I think of the ancients regretting of such death：句法错误。Regret后不跟of。
