Two thumbs up from me

People are always able to write and write well when they have strong emotions.

This dated you. I used to watch Siskel and Ebert and stopped watching their show after Siskel died. I thought their show was amusing to some extend but didn't really get much out of it. But now both of them are gone and an era ended.
