One morning, I received a voice message from a pediatrician at a local hospital. Mark wanted to know a protocol of making reports to the regional health authority. He sounded like a new resident, since he wasn’t quiet sure about the policies and procedures of the reporting system. When I called him, he was busy with his patient.
Later in the afternoon, by the time I finished a long call with my client, my voice mailbox was flashing, it was from Mark again. Quickly wrapping up the case on hand and briefing my documentation, I lifted the phone, tried to make one more attempt. While dialing the 9 digit hospital number and his extension, I was hoping he would be available this time. It didn’t take long to reach Mark’s ward, a female voice answered my call, I identified myself and whom I wanted to talk to, she replied me, “uh-ha, you guys are playing phone tagging, Mark is anticipating your call, here he is.”
Phone tag is a phenomenon in which two parties attempt to contact each other by telephone, but neither is able to get a hold of the other for a conversation.
