Meaning:
In order to have a more peaceful week ahead, which seems impossible with homework, papers, studying, work or after-school activities, some like to accomplish a specific chore or duty on their Sunday.
Origin
It is a well known proverb of unknown origin. I have tried but only found a picture to show that it is indeed a proverb.

When I was working, I always took Saturdays off, but worked half day on Sundays. Otherwise work would pile up and the Monday after woud be very stressful (btw my normal work days then were 9 to 10 hours long minimum).
Nowdays Sunday is just another day of the week for us. It is sunny and warm (going to be 17C!) today, so we plan to go downtown on our e-bikes.
