Background:

This clip is from the movie 【The Bridge Too Far】 depicting Operation Market Garden, a daring Allied operation in Nazi-occupied Netherlands during World War II .

  The Allied spearhead was the British, 2nd Battalion The Parachute Regiment, 1st Parachute Brigade, 1st British Airborne Division. Only after the 2nd Battalion, light infantry, was parachuted to the Arnhem bridge --the prime target, they discovered they were surrounded by a German armored division. 一个轻步兵营对一个装甲师。

Then the conversation began, the officer of British side is Lieutenant-Colonel John Frost.

aftermath

It was failed due to insufficient preparation and bureaucracy from Allied forces high level. The allies withdrew Operation Market Garden.  The British command officer，Lieutenant-Colonel John Frost, a real historical figure, surrendered to the German army with other suvivors after ran out ammunition and medical appliances.   In memory of the fighting there, the bridge has been renamed the "John Frost Bridge" after WWII.
