'The bug stops here' VS. ' The buck stops here'

路上看到这辆杀虫公司（pest control)的车, 后挡风玻璃上的广告做得挺聪明。The bug stops here.

如果从字面上逐字翻译的话，这几个字是说“虫子停在这里”，显然这让人不知所云，但是如果你知道 美国第33届总统Harry Truman 在白宫办公桌上的那块著名的牌子就会明白杀虫公司的广告语是啥意思了。

Truman 总统在二十世纪四五十年代任总统期间，他的朋友为他订做了一块木牌子，上书 The buck stops here. 他一直把这个牌子放在白宫的办公桌上。这句话源自美国的谚语 pass the buck.

Pass the buck 的意思是，把责任推给别人。如果有人，诸如公司的客户啥的，向你抱怨啥，你可以说”the buck stops here”，意思是说有啥抱怨都跟你说好了，你会负责做全权处理。

Truman 总统在他的讲话中多次引用”the buck stops here”. 比如他在1953 年1月的总统卸任讲话中说： The President--whoever he is--has to decide. He can't pass the buck to anybody. No one else can do the deciding for him. That's his job.
