Memorial Day, many years ago

Mr. Song, possibly a 中国科学院院士, a roommate of mine in the States died by car accident on that day.
His death is caused by head on collision after he wanted to pass, running into opposite way.
Although I felt sympathetic with his difficult situation I noticed he behaved a little bit frivolously.
By contrast, a younger friend was very cautious in driving as well as in marriage, he has a good life now.
Another female neighbor who had a serious accident but escaped punishment.
