Only by definition in dictionary one may not catch its accurate meaning.

〖read〗∶看着书本出声读或默读, react could be fast and in real act.

Readiness may have no direct relation with reading.

Real world may in contrary from one's reading.

So to be ready to enter the real world needs a lot of reading as well as action.

That is the gap of Chinese education from the western. I, for one, has not graduated from the "society yniversity". Sorry for our ancestors and who were in power.
