Aortic dissection is mostly caused by aneurysm, which is easily

easily detected, monitored and managed by routine checkup. 

However, when the arterial wall gets thinner, or sustains a trauma, it could tear and cause a dissection.

the treatment for it even in surgery varies based on its location. The type A involving only ascending aorta is a routine surgery which is capable to perform in almost every heart center, however, type A involving the arch mostly requires deep hypothermia that not every heart surgeon and center is able to do it with good result. Type B that requires a surgery needs a specialty heart surgeon and heart team which is even more rare.

all in all, routine checkup is the upmost important, if known with an aortic aneurysm, better have a contingent plan with the cardiologist.
