BiPAP trial

If the patient's mentation is intact can try BiPAP first. Need to increase the tital volume (by increase the difference between IPAP and EPAP) and increase the frequency till CO2 is near his baseline and acidosis improves(his baseline may be higher than normal if it is chronic). If he fails to improve within 1.5-2 hrs, he should be promptly intubated.
