Biopsy under CT guidance is performed by interventional radiologist, not pulmonologist, neither thoracic oncologist
In your case, an isolated lung nodule could be all kinds of possibility.
1 benign. Could be benign tumor or infection
2 malignancy. Could be lung originated cancer, or other solid cancer metastasis to lung, or hematologic cancer such as lymphoma
The treatment for the above possibilities are different
Thus I think biopsy is a must and thinking to much details of the procedure of biopsy will exhaust you and really not nessary in my opion
