Granite conceptually is not difficult for DIY but two issues

one, stones are heavy - each piece weighs over 250 pounds so need at least another helper or two. two, need diamond drills drill holes - those are expensive. Lastly, most stone places don't separate installation as their warranty would be invalid otherwise. The stone guys also operate very efficiently, so there is very little savings for DIYers.
