Fridge, AC, dehumidifier are cousins, same blood but behave different.
Fridge: evaporator inside, condensor on back of fridge, condensing water collected in drain pan at bottom of fridge, and condensing water evaporates into space. So fridge add both humid and temperature into space.
AC (window or central): Evaporator inside, condensor outside, condensing water collected in drain pan and pipped out of space. So AC remove both humid and temperature out of space.
Denumidifier (portable): Evaporator and condensor are all in one machine inside space. condensing water collected in drain box (need to empty manually) or pipe away. So dehumidifier remove humid out of space. Regarding temperature rise, I think it is a good benifit.
Normally dehumidifier is placed in cool humid place like basement. Dehum sucks in cool humid air; evaporator supercools (you need air to be 70, machine cools it down to 65) the air to condensate humid out of air; the suppercool dry air was reheated back to normal temperature, saying 70 or higher, by condensor; You get warm but super dry air out of machine.
So Dehum condensor heat is 100% into space, but maybe 50% is used to reheat supercooled air. And space like basement, you will like to have such extra heat to warm it up even in hot summer.
All three refrigerant machines are useful depending on where you live. We might all have Fridge and AC, but dehum is also very useful to make you comfortable. Also turn on AC and dehum at the same time do not waste electrical, you might save money to get same comfort. Summer comfort is related to temperature as well as humidity.
Hope help.
