My wife and I brought a house for $550000. We put 30% down. She was laid off last year and found a new job right away. She was scrutizied and almost didn't make it when she went to the border to get her new TN. She has never had any problems before. I can't imagine how our life would be like if she were stuck in Canada. You should never assume everything will the same as before nowadays. Jobs are not stable and neither or H1B are easy to get. It is better to a little bit conservative.
