Sorry, I am not familiar with the Apartment in that area. Houses in westlake are the most expensive ones in Austin, considering you are from CA, maybe it is still comfortable. :-)

Another choice is great hill area at 78759. In arboretum area, many choices of aparment around there. And houses are less expensive comparing with westlake. School is roundrock ISD, westwood high school is good, too. Take 360 south to 78746 for work (distance is around 10 miles), but traffic time it is little bit slow.
