***When Should I Call a Doctor?
- Is younger than 3 months old and has a rectal temperature of 100.4 degrees Fahrenheit or higher.
- Is older than 3 months and has a temperature of 102 degrees Fahrenheit or higher.
- It lasts longer than 24 hours in a child younger than age 2.
- It lasts more than three days for a child 2 years of age and older.
- Looks very sick.
- Is unusually drowsy or very fussy.
- Is drooling or has difficulty breathing.
- Has been in a very hot or overheated car.
- Has other symptoms like stiff neck, severe headache, severe sore throat, severe ear pain, an unexplained rash, or repeated vomiting and diarrhea.
- Has a condition that suppresses immune responses, such as sickle-cell anemia or cancer or is taking steroids.
- Has had a seizure.
