5.Taking baby's temperature

***When Should I Call a Doctor?

Most cases of fever don’t require that you contact your child’s doctor. But there may be situations where the fever may be more serious. Call your child’s doctor if your child has a fever and:

• Is younger than 3 months old and has a rectal temperature of 100.4 degrees Fahrenheit or higher.
• Is older than 3 months and has a temperature of 102 degrees Fahrenheit or higher.
• It lasts longer than 24 hours in a child younger than age 2.
• It lasts more than three days for a child 2 years of age and older.
• Looks very sick.
• Is unusually drowsy or very fussy.
• Is drooling or has difficulty breathing.
• Has been in a very hot or overheated car.
• Has other symptoms like stiff neck, severe headache, severe sore throat, severe ear pain, an unexplained rash, or repeated vomiting and diarrhea.
• Has a condition that suppresses immune responses, such as sickle-cell anemia or cancer or is taking steroids.
• Has had a seizure.

If your child’s fever goes higher than 105 degrees Fahrenheit, it is considered a medical emergency. Call for emergency medical assistance, or 911, immediately.
