Scaling. Scaling is a procedure that involves cleaning roots that have been infected by periodontal disease. During the procedure, the periodontist will go under the gum line to remove plaque and calculus from the surface of the root. Usually, a local anesthetic will be used in order to prevent any discomfort.
Root planing. Root planing is generally done in conjunction with scaling. This procedure involves sanding down any roughness on the surface of the root, along with removing any bacterial growth that is contributing to gum inflammation. Scaling and root planing may be performed in multiple visits.
Tray delivery systems. A tray delivery system is used to apply medications to your teeth at home to help control periodontal disease. The trays are custom-made to fit each individual patient's mouth.
