The Affordable Care Act, signed in to law by President Barack Obama, has been a prominent news story in recent days as the October 1, 2013 open enrollment dates nears.
When you look at the math behind who will receive a tax credit in 2014, one of the figures commonly referred to is the federal poverty level. Individuals that fall between 100 and 400 percent of the federal poverty level will receive a subsidy to assist in the purchase of health insurance.
To calculate the federal poverty level percentage, an individual must divide their total income by the poverty guidelines based on household size. Federal poverty level guidelines for 2013 can be found on the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services website.
